Not classic, but not really agile either

The best of both

Mastering a data center move with agile methods

The agile way of working, which has been standard in software development for some time, is also becoming more and more prevalent in other areas. The key advantage is its flexibility and openness to react quickly to short-term changes. It was therefore clear that agile would be the way forward for those responsible for moving around 1000 servers and the applications running on them to the cloud.

Our Contribution

As an external service provider, the House of PM was responsible for the introduction and adaptation of the agile approach to the project-specific requirements.

The range of services included the establishment of iteration cycles typical for agile work as well as meeting formats for regular information exchange, planning and evaluation of the cycles and control of improvement potentials. In deliberate deviation from the agile principle, a dedicated management team was set up in which HoPM was responsible for adherence to the methodology, its continuous improvement and the interface function to classically organized sub-aspects.

Project-specific peculiarities were the usage-related exclusion periods for a move that had to be taken into account on the part of the specialist departments. In addition, the employees required for the preparatory work were primarily involved in other projects and were not familiar with agile principles.

"Thanks to the new hybrid way of working, the team was able to better plan the individual project stages and achieve the set stage goals."
